This position requires a minimum of an AA in the areas of Education, Medical/Nursing, Psychology, Speech or other related fields, and/or three (3) years or more of direct experience working with individuals with a developmental disability.  An instructor also needs to be in good health, mentally and physically, due to the rigorous demands of the job.  In certain circumstances on-the-job training can be utilized for the right individual. Familiarity with common computer programs and technology preferred.

Key Areas of Responsibility

  • Collaborate with Supervising Lead Instructor to develop necessary reports

  • Provide one-on-one direct services to participant(s) including but not limited to: instruction, goal setting and planning, coordinating the instruction, data collection, and review of all areas of independent living

  • Assist in securing housing, monitor medical appointments and records, including recording medication log, and assist participants in emergencies (i.e. medical, legal) if needed

  • Carry out instructions of any Behavioral Management Plan that may be in place (developed by a qualified behavioral specialist)

  • Document hours of direct service and prepare bi-monthly billings with necessary backup documentation, maintain records of participant services and type of services

  • Interface with private and government agencies

  • Provide frequent client updates, recording client progress and attendance.

  • Maintain current credentials and update training as required by the State of California and/or other Professional licensing

  • Use specific adaptive skills for participants who may be deaf, blind, or physically disabled as needed

  • Arrange transportation and schedules with client’s program(s), medical appointments, recreational activities, field trip(s), and vacation plan(s)

  • Other duties as required to secure quality services for the client
